US Supports Over 5 Million Nigerian Farmers Through Agricultural Partnership
USAID Highlights Efforts to Boost Food Security and Rural Economies
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has supported more than five million Nigerian farmers since 2019 through its agricultural partnership programmes, according to a statement from the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria.
The programmes aim to strengthen Nigeria’s food security by increasing agricultural production and supporting rural economies across the country. The embassy explained that its initiatives are developed in close collaboration with Nigerian agricultural experts, farmers, and government officials.
“These programmes are developed and implemented in partnership with Nigerian agricultural experts, farmers, and government officials to ensure they meet local needs and respect Nigeria’s agricultural sovereignty. USAID’s work in Nigeria focuses on practical support for farmers, including improved access to markets, agricultural training, and research collaboration.
“Our agricultural partnership represents a shared commitment to addressing Nigeria’s food security challenges through locally driven solutions,” the statement read.
The USAID’s agricultural support includes practical assistance such as improved market access, agricultural training, and research collaboration. The agency stressed that all programmes are implemented with full transparency and in strict adherence to Nigerian laws.
The embassy addressed concerns about media coverage, asserting that its agricultural initiatives are designed to meet local needs and respect Nigeria’s agricultural sovereignty. The programmes also involve supporting local agencies in strengthening regulatory processes for agricultural biotechnology.
“As we continue this partnership, we remain committed to full transparency and meaningful consultation with Nigerian agricultural communities,” it added.
