President Bola Tinubu Set to Deepen Bilateral Ties with South African Counterpart Ramaphosa

President Bola Tinubu is set to depart France on Monday for Cape Town, South Africa, where he will co-chair the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) alongside South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Presidential BNC, scheduled for Tuesday, December 3, will be preceded by a ministerial meeting on Monday at the South African Parliament Building in Cape Town.

Presidents Tinubu and Ramaphosa will engage in discussions on a broad range of bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest during the session. This meeting follows their June 2024 talks in Johannesburg, where they reaffirmed their commitments to deepen collaboration between the two nations.

The 11th session of the BNC will feature deliberations across eight working groups, addressing areas such as political consultations, consular and migration matters, banking and finance, defence and security, manufacturing, the social sector, mines and energy, and trade and investments.

Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements are expected to be signed during the high-level meeting to enhance cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa.

Established in 1999, the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission aims to strengthen ties of friendship and foster collaboration between the two countries. This year’s meeting is particularly significant as it marks the 25th anniversary of the Commission, highlighting the enduring partnership between the two nations.

President Tinubu will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including state governors, ministers, and senior government officials. The President is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the BNC meeting.
