The Chance Will Not Be There: Wike Dismisses Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Ambitions

FCT Minister Says Nigerians Have Repeatedly Rejected Former VP's Blueprint

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has publicly dismissed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s potential bid for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket in 2027, stating emphatically that such an opportunity “will not be there.”

Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Wednesday evening, Wike responded to Atiku’s recent criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, where the former vice president had claimed he would have managed the country differently to prevent the current economic hardships.

“Did he not present it (blueprint) before Nigerians? Did Nigerians choose him?” Wike questioned, highlighting Atiku’s previous unsuccessful attempts at the presidency. The minister expressed skepticism about continuing to field “one man for how many years,” drawing parallels with the American political landscape.

Wike further emphasized that while criticism is welcome, it doesn’t necessarily translate to effective opposition, stating, “You presented your blueprint in 2023, Nigerians heard you clear and said thank you, but it will not work, we will not support you. Criticisms do not mean opposition is working.”
