Entertainment, Politics, and Music Dominate Nigerian Online Searches

Google has released its annual “Year in Search” report for Nigeria, revealing the most searched and trending topics of 2024.

Bobrisky and Beta Edu led the national personality search, while Donald Trump dominated global searches. Notable searches also included personalities like Junior Pope and Herbert Wigwe.

Entertainment tops the trend with movies like ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ and TV series ‘Supacell’ capturing widespread interest. The music scene saw Shallipopi and Khaid gaining prominent recognition.

Boy Spyce’s ‘I Don’t Care’ topped the music charts, with Nigerians showing keen interest in song lyrics, particularly tracks like ‘Ogechi’ and ‘Ozeba’.

Political and economic searches reflected national concerns, with queries about the U.S. elections, the new national anthem, and the national grid leading news category trends.

Google West Africa’s Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade noted that these search trends offer insights into Nigerians’ interests, from cultural milestones to pressing global and local issues.

The year’s searches also highlighted practical concerns, with users seeking information on currency exchange rates and international political developments.
