Ribadu Vows to Crush New Terror Group

Security Forces Recover Stolen Cattle, Push Back Lakurawa Militants from Kebbi-Sokoto Border

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has issued a stern warning to the newly identified terrorist group Lakurawa, declaring they will find no sanctuary in Nigeria. The declaration comes as military operations against the group have already begun yielding results in the northern border regions.

“This so-called Lakurawa or whatever you call them, they are making a mistake. Nobody ever dares Tinubu and wins,” Ribadu declared at the 2024 Comptroller-Generals of Customs Conference in Abuja, where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“They have come at a wrong time. Nobody has ever defeated Tinubu, and you are going to be defeated. We will kick you out of Nigeria,” Ribadu said.

The group, which recently migrated from the Sahel region through the Niger Republic border, had attempted to establish a presence on the fringes of Kebbi and Sokoto states. However, swift military action has already forced their retreat, with troops recovering 38 rustled cows following the group’s attack on Mera community in Augie Local Government Area.

Speaking on broader security gains, Ribadu reported progress in the fight against insurgency across the country. “Boko Haram today is running out. They have moved to Chad, and that is why the President of Chad declared war on them in the last one week,” he said.

The NSA highlighted what he termed “Tinubu gains” in security, claiming that “hundreds of bandits are killed today, every day” and noting increased freedom of movement across the country. He also reported that bandits are surrendering to military forces daily, indicating growing pressure on insurgent groups.

Local authorities in affected areas have confirmed the positive impact of military intervention. Yahaya Mohammed Augie, Chairman of Augie Local Government, reported that “swift action by the military and other security agencies is now yielding the desired results.”

The military is establishing a base in the Mera community to maintain pressure on the terrorist group, according to security sources. AbdurRahman Zagga, Director of Security in the Kebbi State Exco Office, expressed confidence in ongoing operations, stating that “the Kebbi Government will not rest until these people are brought to account.”
