PDP’s Ajayi Rejects Ondo Election Results, Heads to Court

Runner-up challenges Gov. Aiyedatiwa's victory, alleges electoral malpractice in November 16 polls

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has formally rejected the results of the November 16th gubernatorial election, vowing to challenge the outcome through legal channels.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner in the election with 366,781 votes, while Ajayi secured 117,845 votes. In a statement through his campaign spokesperson, Ayo Fadaka, Ajayi declared his intention to contest the results, describing the electoral process as a “debauchery” that requires judicial intervention.

The PDP candidate criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that elections conducted since the APC’s rise to power in 2015 have been characterized by process manipulation and results that contradict the electorate’s true preferences. Ajayi claimed his team has uncovered evidence of actions taken to compromise the electoral desires of the people.

“Democracy cannot thrive in an environment where unabated criminality is perpetually perpetrated,” Ajayi stated, expressing concern about voter apathy and disenchantment with the electoral process.
