Pastor Helen Ukpabio Seeks ₦200bn Damages Over Bloody Civilian’s Tweet

Legal battle looms as Helen Ukpabio's lawyers call singer's tweets "reckless, satanic, and libellous"

A social media post has sparked a major legal confrontation as Helen Ukpabio, founder of Liberty Foundation Gospel Ministries, pursues a ₦200 billion defamation claim against singer Bloody Civilian (Emoseh Khamofu) over allegations made on X (formerly Twitter).

The dispute erupted after a birthday celebration post for Ukpabio by user #OneJoblessBoy triggered a controversial response from Bloody Civilian, who claimed “She literally made people burn their children alive,” prompting immediate backlash from the pastor’s family.

Imaobong Ukpabio, the pastor’s daughter, responded with an ultimatum on X: “I give you the next five hours to take this down, or I will educate you in court!”

In a formal demand letter dated November 25, 2024, the law firm Victor Ukutt and Co. characterized the singer’s tweets as “reckless, satanic, and libellous.” The firm stated: “Our clients’ attention has been drawn to your reckless, satanic, and libellous posts on X… Using your verified account, #bloody__civ, on 22 November 2024.”

The legal team contends that Bloody Civilian’s posts falsely portrayed Helen Ukpabio as advocating child killings and promoting abusive exorcism practices. They emphasized that both police and Department of State Services (DSS) investigations had previously dismissed such allegations as “grossly false.”

The demands include a public retraction and apology, along with the ₦200 billion compensation for alleged damage to Ukpabio’s reputation.
