‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ Shatters Nollywood Box Office Records

Funke Akindele's Latest Film Breaks Opening Day Earnings in Nigerian Cinema History

In a spectacular debut that has electrified the Nigerian film scene, Funke Akindele’s latest cinematic offering, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’, has clinched the title of highest-grossing opening day film in Nollywood history. The movie, released last Friday, raked in an impressive N45.2 million with 9,409 admissions, eclipsing previous records and cementing Akindele’s status as a powerhouse filmmaker.

The Nigerian Box Office officially confirmed the remarkable achievement via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, noting that the film surpassed the previous record set by another Akindele production, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, which dominated the box office in 2023.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ accomplished this feat despite not screening at Genesis Cinemas and missing a significant portion of the day at Silverbird Cinemas. The official box office account noted that the final figures could potentially be even higher, adding to the excitement surrounding the film.

The movie, which is part of the beloved Jenifa franchise that has been entertaining audiences since 2008, boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Starring talents like Layi Wasabi, Nancy Isime, Jackie Appiah, Falz, Omowunmi Dada, Chimezie Imo, Patience Ozokwor, and Stan Nze, the film seems to have struck a chord with cinema-goers.

Film One, a prominent entertainment company, also celebrated the milestone, confirming that ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ not only has the biggest opening day for a release in 2024 but also the highest admission count for the year.

With this record-breaking performance, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ has set a new benchmark for Nollywood films in 2024.
