Dangote Refinery Exports Petrol to Four African Countries

First International Sales Begin as Refinery Targets Global Markets

The Dangote refinery has started exporting Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) to Cameroon, Angola, Ghana, and South Africa in recent weeks, the company announced on Sunday.

Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, disclosed the exports during a meeting with a Japanese business delegation. He confirmed that the refinery’s products meet international standards and are being distributed globally.

“In recent weeks, we’ve exported petrol to Cameroon, Ghana, Angola, and South Africa, among others,” Edwin said. He added that diesel is being distributed worldwide, and jet fuel is finding strong demand in European markets.

The refinery, developed by Nigerian investor Aliko Dangote, is the world’s largest single-train refinery complex. The facility was built entirely by Nigerians and incorporates technologies from around the world.

During a tour by the Japanese delegation, led by Ambassador-designate Suzuki Hideo, the facility received significant praise. Takashi Oku from the Japan External Trade Organisation described the refinery as a project that showcases technological progress.

Edwin explained that the Dangote Petrochemical project aims to boost downstream industries, create jobs, increase tax revenues, and reduce foreign exchange outflows.

The Japanese business leaders were impressed by the refinery’s scale and technological sophistication. Masahiro Tsuno of Itochu Nigeria Limited called the facility “a miracle,” highlighting its unique development as a single-investor project.

The company is also expanding its polypropylene section to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported materials used in packaging, textiles, and automotive manufacturing.
