Ekiti Court Grants Dele Farotimi ₦50 Million Bail
Human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi has been granted bail by the Ekiti State High Court following his arrest in a defamation suit filed by Chief Afe Babalola, a prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
The bail conditions include a ₦50 million bond and a surety with equivalent landed property. The court has set January 29, 2025, as the date for further proceedings of the case.
The legal dispute involves Farotimi’s book, with Babalola claiming defamatory content about his professional reputation. The 95-year-old legal luminary’s complaint led to Farotimi’s arrest.
The Ekiti State Police Command detained Farotimi following Babalola’s complaint, sparking an immediate backlash from legal professionals and civil rights groups.
