Four Nigerian Students Jailed in UK Over Violent Leicester Street Brawl
Armed confrontation leads to prison sentences ranging from three to seven years after six-week trial
Four Nigerian students have been sentenced to prison terms in the United Kingdom following their involvement in a violent street brawl in Leicester City centre that occurred in the early hours of November 4, 2021.
Destiny Ojo (21), Joshua Davies-Ero (21), Ridwanulahi Raheem (21), and Habib Lawal (21) were found guilty at Leicester Crown Court after a six-week trial. The group, all London residents, wielded various weapons including knives, a baseball bat, and a crutch during the incident.
According to Leicestershire police, CCTV footage captured the defendants carrying their respective weapons: Davies-Ero with a crutch, Ojo with a baseball bat, while Lawal and Raheem were seen carrying what appeared to be large knives. The violent confrontation resulted in an 18-year-old man suffering stab wounds that required hospital treatment.
The court handed down varying sentences:
- Destiny Ojo: 7 years for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm, and committing grievous bodily harm with intent
- Habib Lawal: 5 years for similar charges
- Ridwanulahi Raheem: 3 years for violent disorder and possession of a bladed article
A fifth defendant, identified as Asamoah, who previously pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article, awaits sentencing.
