Okpebholo Orders Immediate Freeze on Edo State Govt Bank Accounts

Reverses Name Change to 'Ministry of Roads and Bridges' Implemented by Previous Administration

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has ordered the immediate freezing of all bank accounts belonging to the state government until further notice. The directive, issued through the Chief Press Secretary, Fred Ituah, warned commercial banks and heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to comply with the order without delay.

“All bank accounts in all the commercial banks have been frozen. Commercial banks must comply with the order and ensure that not a dime is taken out of the coffers of government until there is a further notice,” the statement read.

The governor also threatened severe punishment for any individual, including MDA heads and civil servants, who flouts the order.

In addition to the bank account freeze, Okpebholo has directed the reversal of the “Ministry of Roads and Bridges” to the original “Ministry of Works” name.

“It is funny how you can call a Government institution Ministry of Roads and Bridges. Ironically, no single bridge was built by the same administration. Not even a pedestrian bridge,” the statement said, criticizing the previous administration’s lack of infrastructure projects.

The governor indicated that more actions will be taken to address decisions made by the previous administration that were not in the best interest of the state.
